It’s the holiday and the Star Wars gods are looking favorably down upon us, as we are graced with yet another incredible set of short films from Star Wars Rebels. These short films should not only put a smile on your face from the authentic A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back vibe, but also should make your imagination start to churn at the prospect of live-action films coming in the next few years.
The newest short “Not What You Think” premiered today and it takes a look at the Star Wars universe from a different angle. Throughout six films, we have often seen TIE fighter space fights from the cockpit of the pilots in battle. Rarely, if ever, have we seen the aftermath of what happens to any of the individual ships that unceremoniously gets gunned down. This short features the series lead Ezra Bridger as he attempts to “help” a downed Empire pilot. Check it out:
It is clear that the writing and characterizations of our leads will be more roguish than in the past. Especially since these stories are not following traditional Jedi. Ezra seems a little more Han Solo than Luke. Expect to see all of the leads have this sort of anti-hero charm. It should be fun to see Ezra develop in the Force and his character as a whole. When the Force warned Ezra “Spidey-sense” style…insta-goosebumps.
Zeb is the brute of the Star Wars Rebels crew. He is also Star Wars concept artist Ralph Mcquarrie’s original concept for Chewbacca. (How cool is that?) George Lucas and his staff refined the design ultimately, but it is a great nod and way to come full circle. Watch Zeb leisurely make his way to an escape ship while being attacked by a squad of stormtroopers. Enjoy “Entanglement”:
In the final short, “Art Attack”, Sabine cleverly comes up with a diversion, while staying one step ahead of the Stormtroopers.
Star Wars Rebels premieres on October 17th on Disney XD.
