Weird. Outside the box. Quirky. All apt ways to describe director James Gunn and his filmography. If his latest film is anything like the newest trailer, Guardians of the Galaxy will have his fingerprints all over it. Marvel released the trailer to their latest potential summer blockbuster yesterday and at the least, it looks like a wild ride .

Blue skinned people. Check. Green skinned people. Check. Space ships and explosions. Check. A racoon firing futuristic weaponry off the top of a sentient tree. Check. It seems Marvel has all the makings of a modern space opera and blockbuster in place. Or at the very least, a trippy cult film that college students can watch while under the influence of hallucinogens. Either way it seems to be a positive step and gamble in expanding their cinematic universe. Marvel is looking to get an early start to the summer movie season with the release of Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier in April. That film’s more ground level approach to superheroism should effectively set the table for the cinematic donkey-punch that the studio has waiting for us in August, with the release of G.O.T.G., which would essentially bookend the summer for Marvel.
