Part of the fun of Gotham is seeing a brand new vision of the Batman universe brought to life. So far series showrunner Bruno Heller has not been scared to take classic DC villains and interpret them in unexpected ways for his show. Well it looks like they aren’t holding much back for next season and are laying all their cards on the table. The next villain from Batman’s future Rogue’s Gallery to make an appearance on Gotham looks to be Dr. Jonathan Crane, also known as the Scarecrow.
According to a scoop by ComicBookMovie, Dr. Crane will make his first appearance on Gotham on February 2nd. The episode is aptly titled, “The Fearsome Dr. Crane,” where Detective Gordon and Bullock (Donal Logue) will be tasked with tracking down “a killer who targets victims with severe phobias.” Apparently this will be Gordon’s first case after he gets his desk job back. It has not yet been revealed who will be playing Crane, but details will emerge on that shortly.
In the comics, Dr. Jonathan Crane is a psychologist who works in Arkham Asylum. He conducts experiments on his patients, mostly in an attempt to perfect his fear toxin, his trademark tactic of terror. As seen in Batman Begins, he synthesizes a compound into a gas form which makes those who inhale it see their worst terrors. It is not yet known if he is already on the Arkham staff or exactly how he will fit into the fabric of the show. Since he’s already being labeled a killer in Gotham, it’s not clear how he will be working on Arkham’s staff during Batman’s reign. However, watching Heller and his writers piece together the new version of the mythology is the biggest part of the fun.
Scarecrow will be making his appearance on the February 2nd episode of Gotham.
