A New JUSTICE LEAGUE Show is in Development for the Cartoon Network in 2016

DC Comics has had a rollercoaster ride getting quality live-action films made in recent years. However, one area that they have long been at the forefront in is with their cartoon adaptations. Going back to Batman: The Animated Series, DC Comics has shown the aptitude to create above average animated versions of their comic book properties.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is less than six months away (no that’s not a typo) from its release date and the superhero-on-film genre is about to be forever changed. Director Zack Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio have embraced the challenge of creating the foundation for the Justice League, in live-action, for the first time in history. However, the superhero team has long found success in an animated form, thanks to the shows created for WB Animation by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm.

Apparently, there are plans for the Justice League to come back to television airwaves very soon. According to World’s Finest Online, they reached out to the Cartoon Network about the possibility of a new animated series being in the works and they received this response:

Hallellujah! The League is getting back together again! When you look at DC/WB’s strategy in the past, it is clear why they are making this move. Whether it was Batman: The Animated SeriesThe Batman, or the failed Green Lantern animated show, WB has always closely accompanied their more mature live-action films, with a more family-accessible animated counterpart. Judging by the tone of both Man of Steel and the trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the cinematic adaptations will take a decidely more mature look at the mythological characters. While the younger generations will be introduced to the superheroes via more accessible and kid-friendly interpretations.

A fall 2016 premiere makes a lot of sense. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be released in March, while the Suicide Squad will close out the summer movie-going season for Warner Bros in August. It makes sense to offer stories that could keep the imagination spinning, while new cinematic interpretations of DC Comics’ characters continue to appear on the big screen with an increased regularity. It’s a great time to be fan of the Justice League! We will be sure to bring you the latest as more details are uncovered.
