A Top Secret Sequel to CLOVERFIELD May Be Coming to Theaters in March

One of the most unique movie marketing campaigns in recent memory is how Bad Robot handled the release of Cloverfield. It’s rare in the modern age for a major motion picture to go into production unannounced to the public. However, in 2008 the film was first announced with a trailer that began as an innocent party, but ended with the head of the Statue of Liberty careening down the street and no one knew what to expect.

Producer J.J. Abrams is known for protecting the secrets of his movies and the shadow of the production of Star  Wars: The Force Awakens may have provided cover for this secret production. According to a report from Collider, a brand new film called 10 Cloverfield Lane is coming to theaters in March that the press and general public were totally unaware of. Here is what they had to say:

Yes indeed, it appears as though that long-talked-about sequel to the secretive Abrams-produced 2008 film Cloverfield is not only happening, it’s already in the can. Abrams is taking the exact same marketing approach to this film as he did with Cloverfield, as a Collider reader who caught an east coast screening of Paramount’s 13 Hours hipped us to the news that the teaser trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane is attached to Michael Bay’s Benghazi film. Surprise!

When the first trailer for Cloverfield dropped, no one knew what it was or what to expect. It resulted in the release becoming akin to an event film and ended up being one of the most successful found footage releases ever. Even more shocking is that the film has already been completed and will be released in less than two months. Just two short weeks before the release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The movie is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the man responsible for the sensational short film Portal: No Escape, who has been known to be working on a secret project for Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions. The movie stars John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher, Jr., who were glimpsed in the recently revealed trailer. It’s worth noting that there has not been an actual confirmation that this is actually a Cloverfield sequel, however it would be a truly bizarre misdirect if it’s not. There are only descriptions of the trailer up until this point, but we should expect to see it appear online soon, along with some firm details on the production.
