Love it or hate it, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is getting a second season on ABC to further delve into the nooks and crannies of the Marvel Universe. Agent Phil Coulson–aka actor Clark Gregg–sat down with Collider recently to discuss his new film, Trust Me. But, like the seasoned veterans they are, the folks at Collider roped the actor into talking about AoS‘s upcoming second season and what fans of the show can expect from the show. Gregg had this to say:
It’s going to be lo-fi. You’re going back to basics. You’ve got to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. from the ground up in a much more dangerous world where your group is outlawed. So it feels like the early, Sean Connery James Bond with the brass knuckles and not afraid to knock somebody off.
Will Coulson and his newly battle-hardened team really be shooting to kill? I find it hard to believe that Coulson would suddenly be willing to kill whomever, especially since he spends the entirety of season one looking for ways to keep even his enemies alive. If he does indeed go off the deep end into Murdertown, the show will have deserved its new 9PM time slot–later time slots generally mean more mature content–and will have a lot of explaining to do character-development-wise. Granted, Coulson did ruthlessly kill [REDACTED] in season one’s finale, so maybe Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen will take that moment and run with it. The show’s self-conscious humor is one of its strongest aspects, so as long as all the killing doesn’t get in the way of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. becoming fully-realized characters, I’ll be along for the ride.
No premiere date has been announced for season two of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but we’ll let you know the moment it is!
What do you imagine a “darker” AoS to look like? Did you enjoy the first season? Are you a Fitzsimmons shipper, or what?
