AMERICAN ASSASSIN Red Band Trailer: Michael Keaton is the Mr. Miyagi of Assassinations

Michael Keaton is in the midst of a full-fledged career resurgence that began when he took to the skies as Birdman in 2014. This summer he will build on his critical success with a headlining role as Adrien Toomes, aka the Vulture, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, which will introduce the actor to a whole new generation of moviegoers. However, Keaton’s assault on the box-office won’t end there, as he also stars in the upcoming action flick, American Assassin.

The international thriller is based on the best-selling novel by Vince Flynn, about a seemingly average American who experiences a huge tragedy that leads him down a dangerous path, into the hidden world of espionage, counter-terrorism, and assassinations. The film stars Dylan O’Brien, whose career was in jeopardy after a near fatal accident sidelined the actor after a tragic accident on the set of Maze Runner: The Death Cure. It seems that he is back in rare form and is joined by other acting veterans including Sanaa Lathan (Now You See Me 2), Scott Adkins (Doctor Strange) and Taylor Kitsch (True Detective).

The movie is directed by Michael Cuesta (Kill The Messenger) who has a background directing tense thrillers, particularly those dealing with international espionage. You have to look no further than the filmmaker’s experience directing HBO’s Homeland, to understand the potential that American Assassin has. The movie is scheduled to open in the Fall, which seems to be a perfect release window for the thriller. Enjoy the trailer:

Official Synopsis:

AMERICAN ASSASSIN follows the rise of Mitch Rapp (Dylan O’Brien), a CIA black ops recruit under the instruction of Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton). The pair is then enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Sanaa Lathan) to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Together the three discover a pattern in the violence leading them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent (Shiva Negar) to stop a mysterious operative (Taylor Kitsch) intent on starting a World War.

American Assassin opens on September 15th, 2017.
