‘Arrow’ and ‘The Flash’ to Have 2 Hour Event & ‘Prison Break’ Star Wentworth Miller is Captain Cold

Since it was announced that there would be a spin-off to Arrow featuring The Flash, fans have been wondering exactly how intertwined the two shows would remain. The answer? A lot. During the eighth episode of both show’s upcoming season, their story-lines will intersect in a two-hour “event.” Expect to see Arrow regulars like Felicity, Emily Bett Rickards, appear on The Flash with Stephen Amell and other surprises. Almost all Flash stories are grand in scale and it seems that there will be plenty of spectacle building up to this mid-season event as well.

CW is not pulling any punches with their upcoming TV series, The Flash. When the show was initially announced, both fans and critics were initially concerned. How could a comic-book character with a mind-bending superpower, like super-speed, be brought to life on a network television budget? Much less, casting The Flash’s villains would be an equally tough challenge, since they tend to be far from the world of realism.

This doesn’t seem to be of much concern to Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment, Geoff Johns, as he explains his approach to the new series.

The Flash is “probably the most faithful DC Comics adaptation ever,” said Geoff Johns, Chief Creative Officer of DC Entertainment, who will be breaking stories and working on the show throughout its run. “We weren’t looking to do the same show twice,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg about spinning The Flash off of Arrow. “We weren’t looking for the same kind of hero that Stephen [Amell] portrays. We wanted someone more normal, who had greatness thrust upon them.”

The creators feel confident and it could be refreshing to have a show that actually believes in its source material. This is a concept that has been the building block for the success Marvel Studios has had. It also doesn’t hurt that Johns wrote some of the best modern Flash stories for DC comics either.

According to TV Line, former Prison Break star Wentworth Miller has been cast as Leonard Snart, also known as Captain Cold. A criminal who masters how to manipulate the cold and goes on to be one of the Flash’s greatest foes. It seems natural for the look of Snart to resemble the modern DC New 52 comics. The creators of The Flash truly are trying to incorporate at much of the comic book’s canon as possible. We will see the Captain in the fourth episode of next season. The Flash‘s season premiere is on October 7th, 2014.

Wow! So it’s our first Avengers-style crossover on TV in awhile. Are you excited?
