ARROW Season 5 Final Trailer: Now That’s What Arrows Were Made For

The CW network has not been shy with their promotion for their upcoming fall prime time lineup, which is laden with superhero headliners. The premieres for Supergirl, The FlashLegends of Tomorrow, are all coming within the next two weeks, while the godfather of the lineup, Arrowis set for a comeback next Wednesday. Over the past month or so, there has been a barrage of new posters, set pictures, and trailers reminding viewers that their growing DC TV universe deserves your attention.

This upcoming season Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) will continue his ongoing war on crime in Star City by assembling a new team of potential heroes. Thea and Diggle have left the team, while the city is put under siege by new threats. Set pictures have already revealed the new faces that should be familiar to long-time comic fans including the maniac Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez) and the return of the archer Artemis (Madison McLaughlin). While Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) returns for his second season and this time around gets to wear the iconic blue face paint, as they will all train under the Emerald Archer.

This is the first real look at what personal conflict and inner struggles Queen will have to overcome in the fifth season. Aside from balancing his duties as Mayor and president of his newly formed Fight Club, it looks like Arrow’s old propensity to kill bad guys has returned. It’s another 180 degree turn for the character, who can’t seem to find a steady direction on his moral compass.

Despite the show’s best attempts to prove otherwise, the Green Arrow is not Batman. One of the things that originally attracted many viewers to the show, was its willingness to be unforgiving in Arrow’s pursuit of justice. It was a hyper-realistic take on comic book vigilantism, at a time when there weren’t many other successful superhero shows to compare it to.

Now there are three other shows which have infinitely expanded the television landscape. Hopefully, this trailer is an indication that we will get a more decisive and hardcore Arrow, that is willing to make the play that the Flash and Supergirl are not capable of. It’s been five seasons, so hopefully Arrow has come to grips with the fact that he has mastered a bow, which is a weapon that is designed to kill. In all honesty, the show was at its strongest when Green Arrow was scary and lethal vigilante of the night. So, yes Queen.  “Use your aggressive feelings. Let the hate flow through you.” We will all be better off for it.

Official Synopsis:

NEW BEGINNINGS — After Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) death and the departures of both Diggle (David Ramsey) and Thea (Willa Holland) from Team Arrow, Oliver (Stephen Amell) takes to the streets solo to protect Star City’s citizens as the Green Arrow. With Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) guiding him from the bunker, Oliver is forced to deal with a city that has become overrun with both criminals and a slew of new (and painfully inexperienced) vigilantes. Watching Oliver try to balance his jobs as both the mayor and also the protector of Star City, Felicity suggests he form a new team, but Oliver resists. However, when a deadly new criminal, Tobias Church (guest star Chad L. Coleman), enters the picture, Oliver realizes the best thing for the city might be a new team of superheroes. Meanwhile, the flashbacks take us to Russia where Oliver faces off against the Bratva. James Bamford directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti and teleplay by Marc Guggenheim & Wendy Mericle.

Arrow season 5 will premiere on Wednesday October 5th.
