Over the past three years, actor Stephen Amell’s star has steadily grown during his time as the lead in CW’s superhero drama, Arrow. This past year many fans were disappointed to find out that DC’s film and TV worlds would stay seperate. Which would prevent Amell’s Arrow from making the leap to the big-screen in a movie such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice or the Justice League. If the reports coming from Variety are correct, Amell will be making a leap to a different superhero universe and joining the world of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

According to reports, Amell has accepted the role of Casey Jones in the upcoming sequel to the successful reboot of last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Jones is a long-time ally of the Ninja Turtles and usually the love interest for April O’Neil, who will again be played by Megan Fox. Expect to see them romantically linked in the film. Especially since both Amell and Fox, have huge followings which are primarily based on their sex appeal. Jones is a vigalante who carries a golf bag full of assorted sports related weaponry. He typically finds violent solutions to his problems and clashed with the turtles, specifically Raphael, before becoming allies. Variety explains how the deal came together.

Amell tested with a half-dozen actors over the weekend, but it was his chemistry with Fox that led to the studio eventually giving the role to the star of CW’s “Arrow.” 

There has been rumblings that Amell has been looking for the opportunity to make the transition from small screen stardom, to movie stardom. While the news of him accepting the Casey Jones role is slightly unexpected, it is another comic book franchise for him to latch on to. In addition, the second installment is expected to be an improvement over the first, due to an increased comfortability with the motion-capture technology and the addition of iconic characters such as Jones and the mutants, Rocksteady and Beebop.
