‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ Set Photo Speculation; RDJ, Hulk Photos, too

Filming began on Joss Whedon’s Avengers: Age of Ultron earlier this month, and, as is now something of a tradition for highly anticipated movies, a slew of unofficial photos from the set have been trickling onto the internet. Photos of this nature can sometimes reveal more about a film’s plot than I care to know pre-release, so I can’t say I personally agree with the practice of snapping and posting unpolished set photos. But I’ll certainly take a look in the case of The Avengers. The best potential gear-turner of the images released so far is the shot of current box office titan, Captain America. Let’s take a look.

[Potential SPOILERS for Age of Ultron]

The costume looks great: it strikes a balance between Cap’s brightly colored suit from the first Avengers and his more subdued look in the opening of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. But the real curiosity, and the potential spoiler, lay on Cap’s shoulder: an Avenger’s “A” rather than the S.H.I.E.L.D. eagle. It’s easy to imagine why the S.H.I.E.L.D. logo would be struck from the suit, as the organization went down in literal flames at the end of TWS, but the appearance of the Avengers “A” implies that the Avengers will become their own official (not necessarily governmental) organization. Since Tony Stark owns the Avengers tower in New York, and is the only Avenger who could bankroll a peace-keeping project of we-need-a-uniform size, it’s not a terribly troublesome leap to think Stark has established an Avengers brand that all of our heroes will be wearing in the next installment. Extra-governmental peace-keeping organization populated with superheroes? Sounds legit.

Another point: we saw Maria Hill interviewing with Stark Industries at the end of TWS, but for what job is she interviewing? How about commander of the Avengers Initiative? Since S.H.I.E.L.D. went boom, MCU Hill won’t have an opportunity to become Director as her comic book counterpart did. Making Hill Director/commander of the Avengers would be a good replacement gig, and would be a sensible choice both in the movie universe and in the real world considering Cobie Smulders is officially out of work with the series finale of How I Met Your Mother. Maybe she’ll have a permanent role of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the coming seasons, too.

But on to another set photo! This one comes courtesy of Tony Stark himself, and teases that Stark will at one point wear a shiny purple shirt. Not quite as interesting as the shot of Cap, but I doubt Marvel would give RDJ the go-ahead to tease anything of import given what they , aka Colonel Rhodes aka War Machine aka Iron Patriot, with.

If they don’t strike this pose during filming, I’m going to be sorely disappointed. Nothing splashy here, but it’s exciting to see the gang back together!
