The sequel to The Avengers will be here in less than a year. Marvel is at San Diego Comic-Con and is making their presence known in a major way. Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man and Avengers: Age of Ultron are just some of the properties sending the convention abuzz. On Saturday, Marvel Studios will have their official panels with actors, filmmakers and more giving their thoughts on upcoming projects and revealing all sorts of surprises.
However, in anticipation of Saturday’s panel we have some awesome concept posters for Avengers: Age of Ultron. There will be more posters revealed, so make sure you keep coming back to check for the updates!
First up is the new addition to lineup, Scarlet Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen (Godzilla).
The next reveal is of the newly revamped Black Widow, played again by Scarlett Johansson. It should be noted that they have given her a “power.” In the comics, Black Widow’s bracelets serve technological purposes. It seems director Joss Whedon has finally given her the trademark “Widow’s Bite.” A huge electrical sting that in the comics can generate up to 30,000 watts. Her suit now glows and charges, visually it brings to mind Tron, before delivering the “sting.” It should be really cool to see on the big screen.
After the incredible success of Captain America: The Winter Solider, Chris Evans is a bonafide movie super-star, standing side-by-side with Robert Downey Jr. on the cover of EW.
Well we know the Captain can handle espionage, lets see how he fares against the robotic army of Ultron.
This movie looks like it is going to be intense. And it’s hard to leave Iron Man out of a good party.
Robert Downey Jr’s contract with Marvel is up after Avengers 3 and there won’t be any solo Iron Man adventures before that point. So it has been widely assumed that a new actor would take up the mantle at that time. However Downey Jr. has been reticent to say that this is his true swan song. He made a staggering $75 million dollars for Iron Man 3 in back-end incentives. So he is again, open to negotiation despite his advancing age. This is what he had to say to EW:
“It’s down to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree…When things are going great, there’s a lot of agreement.”
“Right now, this has just been swell, hasn’t it?” the actor said with a big smile, during a break in filming on Avengers sequel. “This has been a really good one and it feels good and we’re having a good time.”
“It’s that thing of: Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?” he says—then adds a caveat. “Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out.”
Clearly Downey Jr. is feeling confident of both his performance and the overall quality of Age of Ultron. Plus his initial Iron Man film was the genesis for the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, so he has to feel some ownership of the current state of Marvel.
The best thing for fans is that there should (crosses fingers) be some footage of Avengers: Age of Ultron to talk about come this Saturday. Also if you take a closer look at the newly released character posters you see they fit together to reveal a larger picture. Expect the rest to be periodically released over the next few days. We will be updating this article with the latest as they come in! So come on back!
(UPDATE)
As promised more character posters have arrived. First up we have Hawkeye and seeming that he is an archer… this combat may be a little too close for his comfort. Don’t you think?
We get to see the first official look at Vision, played by Paul Bettany which is exciting. And after his first appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Everyone is curious how the Avenger’s version of the Quicksilver character will look in motion. We get out first clue here:
So it looks like there are two more character posters still to come. Thor and Hulk will still need their moment in the spotlight, so be sure to come back later for the newest!
(FINAL UPDATE)
As promised, the final two pieces of the puzzle have been released and they are the heavy-hitters of the Avengers. Thor is no stranger to a war:
And the wild card of the group, The Incredible Hulk:
This is what the puzzle looks like finished and it is drool-inducing. Much more info to come. So stay tuned…
