Box Office Report – ’22 Jump Street’ and ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ Share the Wealth

Well it was a gigantic weekend at the box office. Two movies squared off and have proven that demographics do matter. It is clear the adult audience wanted to see 22 Jump Street. In one of the largest R-rated openings in recent years, the movie took the number one spot this weekend with $60 million dollars. Pulling in the cash for family moviegoers was How to Train Your Dragon 2 with $50 million, for an impressive second place finish. This shows that the franchise is clearly strong. And if the rumors of a multi-film story arc are true, the fans are definitely behind seeing the continued story of Hiccup and Toothless. Angelina Jolie’s Maleficent continues its strong run falling to third, yet still adding $19 million more to its total. Edge of Tomorrow made an estimated $16.2 million over the weekend, good enough to hang in for fourth. Coming in fifth place after a sharp drop from first place last week is, The Fault in Our Stars, with about $15.7 million dollars. Here is the complete table and graph with numbers and cool things included for the weekend of 6/13-6/15:
