Box Office Report – ‘Fury’ Has First Place in the Crosshairs

The Brad Pitt led World War II tank film, Fury, rolled into first place this past weekend. It knocked Gone Girl out of the top spot that it had enjoyed for two weeks straight. Fury, (check out our review) earned $23.5 million dollars in its opening weekend. Gone Girl has stayed surprisingly strong, only losing a small percentage of its audience every week. It speaks to the strong word of mouth and a film that has many layers that can only be truly enjoyed through repeat viewings. The animated feature, The Book of Life, had a decent opening in third place with $17 million dollars over the weekend. The Steve Carell vehicle, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, opened to a paltry $12 million dollars. But that is due mostly to the title being so long, that most showtimes had ended before ticket buyers could finish saying the long-ass title at box-office windows. Rounding out the top five is The Best of Me, making $10.2 million dollars in its first week of release.

Here is the complete box-office breakdown for the weekend of 10/17-10/19:
