It was slow at the box-office this past weekend, however it was not devoid of drama. In it’s first week of release the Jake Gyllenhaal led Nightcrawler, debuted in first place. The thriller made and estimated $10.9 million dollars, which is a very strong start for the lower budgeted film. Things got really interesting when Ouija made the exact same amount with $10.9 million dollars in its second week. Clearly audiences were in the mood for a little terror this Halloween weekend.
Coming in third is the World War II tank movie, Fury. It will be interesting to see if the film builds a strong buzz for award season, as word-of-mouth is keeping it going strong.
Probably the biggest individual success of the fall is David Fincher’s Gone Girl, which has found a comfortable home in fourth place. It made another $8.8 million dollars in its fifth week of release. Proving that it is still possible to draw audiences based on a good story without any explosions.
And rounding out the top five is The Book of Life, which made another $8.3 million dollars in its third week of release.
