Box Office Report – MINIONS Take Over the Box-Office Like a Boss

With a name like Minions, it was clear from the beginning they were planning world domination. And over the past weekend Universal took one step closer. After having the largest opening of all time last month with Jurassic World, they followed it up this past weekend with the second largest animated opening of all time. Not bad for a studio that doesn’t have a single high profile superhero property on their roster.

Minions opened with an estimated $115.2 million dollars over the weekend. It is likely that Universal didn’t foresee how large of a success Jurassic World turned into, since it seems that Minions may be cannibalizing its own Universal audience.

Despite being in its fifth week of release, Jurassic World managed to make another estimated $18.1 million dollars over the weekend. The movie only lost 38% of its previous week’s audience, however with Ant-Man on the horizon expect to see a sharp drop next week. Regardless, the movie should sail past the $600 million dollar domestic mark by week’s end.

 Pixar Post Inside Out 04

Inside Out continued its blockbuster success in its fourth week of release, adding another estimated $17.1 million dollars to its lofty total. Pixar is back in a position of power after many questioned their direction after the Cars franchise. We will see how audiences respond to their next offering The Good Dinosaur, coming this November.

It is a sad day when a Terminator movie doesn’t sit on top of the box-office charts. In the second week of release, Terminator: Genisys managed to only make an estimated $13.7 million dollars. It looks as if the movie will struggle to cross the $100 million dollar mark, which is unthinkable for the once mighty franchise.

The Gallows, debuted with an estimated $10 million dollars over the weekend, which secured the fifth spot. It seems that the movie benefited from being the only horror movie available in theaters.
