It was a surprising weekend for Sony pictures, as their new film No Good Deed performed better than industry expectations. The 1990’s throwback film about the terror of home invasion, stars Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson, who carried the film to $24.5 million dollar opening. There has been a drought of quality new releases in recent weeks and the film settled into the vacuum that was created perfectly. The sequel Dolphin Tale 2 had a low opening in it’s first weekend with $16.6 million dollars. The family film opened in over 3500 theaters, so it was surely expected to open to a larger total. Guardians of the Galaxy stays in the top three spots, while grabbing another $8 million dollars to add to his unworldly total. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been the Guardians’ sidekick during it’s box office run, it made $4.8 million dollars in the fourth spot. Let’s Be Cops has been surprisingly strong, keeping the fifth spot with $4.2 million dollars.
