Guardians of the Galaxy took the top spot at the box-office this weekend pulling in an estimated $94 million dollars, exceeding many industry predictions. This bodes well for Marvel Studios whose film has received rave reviews from fans and critics alike. Expect Guardians of the Galaxy to stay in the top ten for a time to come due to strong word-of-mouth. Lucy pulled in an estimated $18.3 million in its second week of release. In it’s first week the James Brown bio-pic, Get On Up, made $14 million in its debut weekend. The Rock’s film Hercules, made $10.7 million in its second week of release. Rounding out the top five spots is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in its fourth week with $8.7 million dollars. Here is the detailed breakdown for the weekend of 8/1-8/3:
