Box Office Report – Sin City: A Movie To Flop For

Sometimes things do not go according to plans at the box office. This past weekend the unexpected happened for Dimension Films’ Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. The sequel to the revolutionary 2005 film turned out to be one of the biggest flops of the year. The fim noir co-directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller, tanked over its debut weekend pulling in an abysmal $6.5 million dollars over the three day period and started off its box office run in eighth place! A failure so huge its actually an impressive feat. Guardians of the Galaxy officially became the highest grossing film of the summer and celebrated by regaining first place in its fourth week of release with $17.6 million dollars. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cemented its status as a bonafide box office success coming in second with $16.8 million dollars. The drama If I Stay came in third in its first weekend with $16.4 million dollars. Let’s Be Cops continued its strong run by not losing much ground in its second week with $11 million dollars. Rounding out the top five was When the Game Stands Tall with $9 million dollars. Here is the complete weekend box-office breakdown for the weekend of 8/22-8/24:
