Box Office Report – ‘The Maze Runner’ Finishes in First; ‘The Scorch Trials’ Greenlit

There has been a drought the past couple of weeks for movie fans of the action-adventure genre. This past weekend, The Maze Runner was released and audiences have responded with $32.5 million at the box office. FOX Studio executives are moonwalking on their desks right now, because the film was produced for a reported $34 million budget. Preparations had already been in the works to adapt the second book in James Dashner’s trilogy, The Scorch Trials. FOX went ahead and formalized these plans, by giving it a release date of September 18th, 2015. So expect to see a lot more of the world of the The Maze Runner (check out our review), coming in literally, less than a year.

Coming in second place is the Liam Neeson crime-thriller, A Walk Among the Tombstones with $13.1 million dollars. It seems that this may be the latest sign that Neeson may need to rethink his career strategy. While his days as an action star are not over, he definitely should reconfigure his Taken formula. Perhaps, joining an ensemble action piece or even dabble in more genre material. Third place belonged to the ensemble comedy-drama, This Is Where I Leave You. Last week’s first place winner, No Good Deed dropped to fourth while collecting $10.2 million dollar more to it’s total. And coming in fifth is the kid friendly, Dolphin Tale 2.
