Well, all good things come to an end. The long time nemesis, and logical counter-programming option, the romantic genre, took the mighty superhero genre off the top of the charts. The Other Woman took control of the #1 spot at the box office with over $24 million. Captain America: The Winter Solider slid to second after an impressive month-long run atop the box office, pulling in another $16 million. Heaven is for Real continued being a draw with an estimated $13.8 million in its second week of release. Rio 2 slid into fourth while the Paul Walker vehicle Brick Mansions failed to draw a crowd with an estimated $9.6 million. Perhaps audiences aren’t quite ready to see Walker on-screen yet, surely executives are hoping the wound will heal by the time Fast & Furious 7 comes around. Here is the weekend box-office breakdown:

What does this mean for box office? Seems that husbands and boyfriends took one for the team and accompanied their significant others to a rom-com. Surely they were paying it forward, since The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens next weekend and Godzilla a couple of weeks after that. Who says fan-boys aren’t smart?
