The Marvel Cinematic Universe has, perhaps criminally so, yet to push any of their pantheon of female superheroes into a solo feature film. The MCU is, in a word, a boy’s club. And that may be changing sooner rather than later.
In a brief interview with badassdigest.com’s Devin Faraci, Faraci confronted Feige on the possibility of a female-superhero-centered picture from the studio. Feige had this to say:
I like the idea if we’re going to do a [female lead] do a new one. Do a wholly new character, do an origin story… We’ve talked a lot about [Captain Marvel]. I think that would be very cool.
And this, of course, in lock-step with the release last Wednesday of Marvel’s Captain Marvel #1, a comic which has garnered positive attention. Frankly, Captain Marvel seems like a fantastic choice for a solo picture: she has a history with many of the characters audiences are already familiar with (Iron Man, the Avengers, and awkwardly, Spider-Man), AND she even travels through space with ease, providing a clean connection with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
What do you think of a Captain Marvel movie coming before a Black Widow feature?
