The wait is over and did Marvel ever make a splash today during their huge announcement ceremony at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, California. Marvel head Kevin Feige announced all of the films that will make up the third phase of their movie production. Among the films announced on their upcoming schedule is Black Panther.
T’Challa, is the leader of an advanced fictional civilization based in Africa called, Wakanda. His title, Black Panther, is a ceremonial name given to him by his tribe, signifying his place as their ruler. Wakanda is the most technologically advanced citys in the Marvel universe and is the place where the strongest metal known, vibranium, is forged. The Black Panther carries historical significance as well, he is the first black superhero in American mainstream publishing. For those who aren’t as familiar with the character, he is Marvel’s answer to Batman, with more pride and less angst.
Chadwick Boseman will be playing T’Challa for Marvel as has been long rumored. Boseman is no stranger to playing iconic figures. In the past two years he has played both Jackie Robinson and James Brown to great acclaim. It should be a natural fit for him in the Panther gear.
The announcement of a Black Panther film, also lends credence to the popular theory that Andy Serkis is playing Ulysses Klaw in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. Klaw is known for his ability to forge and manipulate vibranium. It is also known that Ultron’s shell, in one of his forms, is made from the precious metal as well as Captain America’s shield. Plus Serkis is a dead-ringer for Black Panther’s nemesis. Suddenly the pieces are all coming together.
We have our newest addition to the Marvel cinematic universe and it is destined to be an adventure that we haven’t experienced yet. However, we will not have to wait long as T’Challa has been confirmed to be a supporting character in Captain America: Civil War. We will be bringing you the details as we uncover them for the historic moment in comic book movie history.
Black Panther will be in theaters November 3rd, 2017.
