Character Names for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ (Partially) Revealed!

J.J. Abrams is notorious for keeping a veil of secrecy over his movie productions. Curious fans spent months trying to figure out what the creature looked like in Super 8 or if Benedict Cumberbatch was actually playing Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness. Abrams believes in saving the surprises until fans are sitting in their seats and enjoying his movies. However, he is now in charge of potentially the most anticipated film of all time in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. His secrecy is coming into direct conflict with fan’s curiousity and even Disney.

Apparently, Disney head Bob Iger had to apply pressure just to get the trailer released a couple of weeks ago. The 88 second teaser has now been viewed over 100 million times and literally made millions of people’s Thanksgiving holiday. Variety explains how fortunate we were to get that small look.

Disney nearly didn’t release a trailer, Iger admitted. Abrams is known for wanting to keep footage of his films under wraps. But the rabid “Star Wars” fanbase prompted Disney to come up with the brief introduction of what the new film would look like.

It is equally as rare to be a year away from a movie’s release and to not even know the main character’s names. Clearly fans are on a “need to know” schedule and Abrams feels that fans of the force…don’t need to know anything yet. Well EW, has uncovered some more information about the movie. They have gotten their hands on some of the names of the main characters in the film. It is interesting that the last names of Daisy Ridley and John Boyega weren’t included. Could we be looking at a Skywalker or a Solo? The throwback trading card format is fun as well and should fire up nostalgia for long-time Star Wars fans and collectors.

Take a look at some of the main players in Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

BB-8 Finn Rey

The names have the trademark Star Wars ring to them and sound very authentic. Get ready for the year of the BB-8. Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron is a little bland, but as long as he is a kick-ass pilot, all will be forgiven. But most importantly, are we looking at Rey Solo…or nah?

We want to hear your theories on what these names could be and mean. Let us know on the comment boards and make sure to share our stories on Reddit, , and !
