Kingsman: The Secret Service is a loose adaptation of Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons comic book, The Secret Service. Director Matthew Vaughn must really believe in the material, because he left the director’s chair of X-Men: Days of Future Past to helm the big-screen version of the spy comic. Vaughn lined up an accomplished cast of actors and British gents, including Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Mark Strong, and Samuel L. Jackson, to populate his film and it looks like a wild ride. Vaughn also reunites with his screenwriter Jane Goldman from X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass and from the trailer you can see they brought along their comedic trademark tone.
The plot involves a underground spy organization populated by older, skilled technicians that has been operating in stealth. Colin Firth plays Harry Hart, an espionage expert who recruits a troubled youth into his organization and teaches him how to be a proper British spy, with proper manners of course. Samuel L. Jackson plays the villain of the movie, Valentine. It will be interesting to see how long it takes Russell Simmons to realize that he is being spoofed by Jackson with his hip-hop style and strong lisp. Enjoy the trailer:
Kingsman: The Secret Service will be released February 13th, 2015.
