By any studio’s standards Marvel has already had an outstanding year and they are just getting started. The release of Captain America: Civil War resulted in a billion dollar success at the box-office, so it’s easy to forget that there is a second movie coming out this year.
This November, Marvel will be opening the doors to the hidden world of magic and mysticism with Doctor Strange. The movie will not only serve as introduction to one of Marvel Comics most eccentric characters, but it will present a whole supporting cast that will influence the MCU. The public has already been introduced to the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) and Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) in the new trailer for the movie, but Marvel has a lot more surprises up their sleeve in addition to that.
A new report from That Hashtag Show has a couple pieces of information that is sure to excite fans of the Doctor. In the recently released Marvel Comic “Doctor Strange Prelude,” there are some clear clues for the upcoming movie. One of the bigger ones is that Daniel Drumm and Tina Minoru are in the story, who are both relatives of other significant Marvel characters. Minoru is the mother of Nico, one of the Runaways, whose own series is in development at Hulu. While Daniel is the brother of Jericho Drumm, better known as Brother Voodoo.
According to sources, Brother Voodoo will be making a brief blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in the upcoming Doctor Strange film. Voodoo is an extremely significant player in Doctor Strange’s world in the comic. He even served as the Sorcerer Supreme and wielded the Eye of Agamotto, proving to be one of the more powerful practitioners of magic in all of Marvel Comics.
Voodoo holds a huge significance in the world of Doctor Strange and his storylines could offer some interesting things to future chapters of the series. So, it would make sense for his cameo to be brief, particularly if a quality, big name actor hasn’t been cast in the role yet. Marvel has done an outstanding job of translating their costumes to live-action, but Brother Voodoo’s offers some unique challenges. So, just a glimpse of the design should be more than enough to get comic fans wheels spinning.
The world of Doctor Strange will be a new discovery for both general audiences and many comic fans. So, it will be interesting to see how Marvel introduces the mystical and often flat-out weird characters (and creatures) found in Strange’s adventures. Fortunately we will find out the approach that director Scott Derrickson and Marvel Studios in just a few short months time.
Doctor Strange opens on November 4th, 2016.
