The Tony award-winning Broadway play, Into the Woods, is being adapted for movie theaters and Disney is trying to make a splash. The theatrical version is being directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago) and will feature the acting talents of Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine and Johnny Depp. The story follows a cursed couple going up against an evil witch set in the world of Brothers Grimm fairy tales. So there will be elements of all the iconic fables such as “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “Rapunzel” and “Little Red Riding Hood” among others.
There have been rumblings that some of the more controversial moments in the play have been altered to appease Disney family audiences. It will be interesting to see if Marshall can successfully make a film that will satisfy both the fans of the source material and fans of the film. Enjoy the trailer:
