We are back with our partners over at with another exclusive scoop from the geek world. Over the past three seasons Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has had quite an evolution during its time on the air. The first season was rocky as the show lost the confidence of some fans, until the events in Captain America: The Winter Soldier shook up the show’s formula. The tone and scope of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. expanded in the second season with the introduction of the Inhumans and brand new S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to the mythology. In the show’s third season, the tone became slightly more gritty and by all accounts has continued to improve, while still embracing its comic roots.
While the first part of season 3 dealt mostly with the deadly Inhuman, Lash, the writers and showrunners have not forgotten about Skye’s Daisy Johnson’s own mission. It had been established last season that one of Daisy’s personal objectives is to locate others like herself, in an effort to create a band of “Secret Warriors.” This subplot is an adaptation of a similar comic storyline which had Nick Fury sending Quake, aka Daisy, on similar recruiting missions. In the second part of the season, we should see the Secret Warrior’s plotline come back into focus on the television show.
A new cast member will be joining Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. this season in a reoccurring role. According to our source, Natalia Cordova-Buckley, who made an impression earlier this year in McFarland, USA, has been cast as Yo Yo Rodriguez, aka Slingshot.
Slingshot has the special ability to run at superhuman speeds. However, what differentiates her from other speedsters, such as the Flash or Quicksilver, is that she has to return to the fixed spot that she activated her powers. This is a huge limitation that could be a fun aspect to explore on the show. Hopefully they have an approach which will visually set her apart from other fast heroes who are zipping around popular culture.
It has not been confirmed when she will make her first appearance, however Cordova should begin filming in January or so. So expect to see the debut of Slingshot sometime in early spring. The addition of Cordova will add even more diversity to the cast, while also opening up a wide selection of storylines from the comics that involve Slingshot and the Secret Warriors.
