PoG EXCLUSIVE: This Character Will Be Back in STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS (Spoilers)

Now that Avengers: Age of Ultron is in theaters, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is clearly the most anticipated movie of 2015. LucasFilm and Disney has only given fans of Star Wars a small taste of the grand feast that they have prepared, beginning with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The production carries both the burden and honor, of respecting the legacy of the world that George Lucas created, while moving the franchise boldly into the future and creating a new generation of enthusiasts.

It seems that there is indeed a strategy to advance the mythology. Director J.J. Abrams seems aware of what has worked in the franchise in the past and what choices derailed the Star Wars universe during the prequel trilogy.  Recently Abrams revealed to Vanity Fair that he had considered including Jar Jar Binks in The Force Awakens. However, he devised a way to include him that would have made Star Wars fans cheer out loud.

“I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks’s bones in the desert there. I’m serious! Only three people will notice, but they’ll love it.”

The bumbling buffoon that George Lucas created for his prequel trilogy has become a symbol for everything that went wrong with franchise set in a galaxy far, far away. This shows that Abrams has a wicked sense of humor and that he has his finger on the pulse of what has made the franchise so beloved.

People attached to the movie, such as Mark Hamill, have emphasized that this new chapter of the Star Wars saga will be handing the franchise over to the next generation. However, that doesn’t mean that Abrams has forgotten the past altogether. This got us curious what other Easter Eggs Abrams might have waiting for eager fans of the series. We did some digging around and have gotten confirmation from the inside, that another fan-favorite character from the original trilogy will be making a glorious comeback.

According to our sources, Admiral Ackbar will be making a return in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Actor Tim Rose has returned to the role that he made famous by uttering the three magical words, “It’s a trap!” His character was introduced in Return of the Jedi and his popularity has steadily grown in recent years, due to his meme-ready catchphrase.

Ackbar is from the planet Mon Calamari, whose inhabitants have an average lifespan of 80 years, so he should have a little in the tank for another battle. According to our sources, he will be leading a Resistance fleet, the new moniker of the Rebel Alliance, in the upcoming movie. It is unclear how much screen time he will be afforded, or if Rose’s appearance is simply a glorified cameo. Regardless, you will be seeing the man that knows a trap when he sees one, at the end of the year.
