Experience the Horror of the Internet in the New Trailer for ‘Unfriended’

A good horror movie has the ability to tap into modern society’s hidden fears. A Nightmare on Elm Street explored the fear of the unknown man on your block and the vulnerability of the dream state. The Shining was a dark reflection of a marriage and husband gone wrong. While The Texas Chainsaw Massacre explored how the sound of a chainsaw chasing you, will scare the S#@% out of anybody. Well there is a new film on the horizon and it will make you nervous every time you receive a Skype message.

Unfriended puts the latest modern twist on the found footage genre by setting an entire film on a computer monitor. The movie is about a group of high school kids who humiliated a classmate at a party, which leads to her killing herself. 3 years later they begin to get messages on their computers that lead to a terrifying revenge scenario. The movie is produced by Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted), which is a good sign as he often makes entertaining movies that are off-beat and that dance to their own rhythm.

Aside from the Skype gimmick, it appears that Unfriended may touch on sensitive modern issues such as cyber-bullying and teen suicide which should make it relevant. This is the natural progression of the Paranormal Activity franchise which utilized home security cameras to provide a new perspective on horror. In fact, this movie was originally titled Cybernatural, so get ready for the next logical step in voyeuristic horror. Enjoy the trailer.
