The First 10 Minutes of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ & Over 20 Minutes of Deleted Scenes

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is seen as largely a disappointment. The film is full of uneven performances from quality actors and is jam-packed with characters and plot lines that don’t pay off within the film’s running time. Well there seems to be an answer for that… The filmmakers and studio had no idea what they wanted to do with the story.

“Say whaaa!?” “It’s true Spider-Man. We had no idea what we were doing…”

Sony is prepping audiences for the Blu-ray and DVD release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on August 19th. We have the first ten minutes of the film (courtesy of IGN) and 23 minutes of deleted scenes, which actually show a lot of different paths they could have taken. There are a few sequences, including the return of Richard Parker, Green Goblin sequences and even Electro’s nagging mom, that really illustrate how out of control the story truly was.

All this extraneous material (there was also a nixed Mary Jane Watson subplot featuring Shailene Woodley) explains why Sony is so indecisive on how to move the franchise forward. By not choosing to tell a linear story, in hopes of building a cinematic Spidey universe, they have painted themselves in a corner because their is no dramatic connection for the audience. As much as fans love Batman, Christopher Nolan took the time to make sure you were invested in Bruce Wayne. By the time they got to the third chapter, The Dark Knight Rises, you wanted to know how the larger story would end for Wayne… not his gallery of villains.

Well Sony has released these promotional materials and they are entertaining. Grab your popcorn and enjoy the best and worst of what The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has to offer.
