The CW network is doubling down on their superhero programming this year. We already got a glimpse of Arrow’s fourth season in the latest trailer and The Flash’s second season is waiting in the wings. Spinning off of both of the aforementioned shows during the mid-season will be Legends of Tomorrow, featuring a collection of fan-favorite supporting characters from Arrow and The Flash…as well as some new faces.
One of the biggest surprises of the past year for fans of DC Comics, was that Hawkgirl would be joining the superhero team-up television show, Legends of Tomorrow. It was announced that newcomer Ciara Renee will be putting on the wings for the CW network and joining the collection of ragtag heroes and villains. She is playing Kendra Saunders, the unknowing vessel for the Hawkgirl personae that has existed for ages. In DC Comics, it is hard to find Hawkgirl without her counterpart, Hawkman.
Carter Hall, aka Hawkman, will be played by Falk Hentschel. His first introduction will be in an episode of The Flash, however not in Legends of Tomorrow. But it is clear that he will have a large presence in that show as well. Hawkman and Hawkgirl can be thought of as a superhero duo, however what made them stand out in DC lore is that beneath their partnership, is a great romance. The two warriors have been reincarnated numerous times previously, unfortunately Hawkman is always the one who remembers their past love, while Hawkgirl has to rediscover it each time.
If you are concerned that the bird-like pair seem awkwardly grounded in their first official photo, do not fret. This is simply a promotional shot and in their live-action appearances their wings will be added in via CGI. This is one of the more practical and functional costumes created for the winged heroes. Typically Hawkman is shirtless with nothing more than straps and buckles. However, the producers clearly want them to be able to blend in a little easier. Their outfits bring to mind motorcycle racing gear, which would make sense if they will be flying at a high velocity. Hopefully, they explain who their tailor is also, because that is some serious gear.
Legends of Tomorrow has begun shooting, so it makes sense to begin circulating promo images to build buzz leading into the fall TV season. We will also know a lot more about both characters, since they will have had their soft introductions in other shows by that point. This is only the beginning of the rapid expansion of the DC world on television and there will be a lot more news to look forward to before Legends of Tomorrow premieres early next year.
