The road to bringing an adaptation of Halo to the big screen has been a particularly long and arduous process. Microsoft has been notoriously protective of their property, while Hollywood heavy-hitters, such as Neil Blomkamp, have tried to get a feature made out of the license to no avail. The result has been a lot of smaller projects where Microsoft seems to be simply testing the waters, more than being gung-ho about bringing the story of Master Chief to life.

Things are finally moving as Microsoft has begun focusing on bringing their property to alternative mediums. There is an upcoming series that will be featured on XBOX and Showtime, with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin set to produce. However before that time, Microsoft has developed a series that will serve as a prequel to their upcoming release of Halo 5: Guardians. Microsoft is looking to expand the universe of Halo and this series will introduce new characters, aside from Master Chief, who look to be pivotal pieces in the future of the franchise. The Halo: Nightfall TV series is executive produced by Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Alien) and will debut on the upcoming Master Chief Collection for XBOX. Enjoy the behind the scenes look:

Here is a description of the series:

“Taking place between the events of Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, Halo: Nightfall follows the origin story of legendary manhunter Jameson Locke (Mike Colter) and his team as they are caught in a horrific terrorist attack while investigating terrorist activity on the distant colony world of Sedra. Led by Locke, the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) agents are forced to coordinate with a Sedran commander with a remarkable history and deep-rooted mistrust of ONI. As the plot unravels, they’re drawn to an ancient, hellish artifact where they’re forced to fight for their survival, question everything, and ultimately choose between their loyalties and their lives. Agent Locke is a new character in the Halo universe poised to play a major role in Halo 5: Guardians releasing on Xbox One in 2015.”

Halo: Nightfall will be available on copies of The Master Chief Collection on November 11th.
