First Look at Princess Leia’s Costume From STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS

There have been a slew of blockbusters so far in 2015 and many more to come that have the eye of public scrutiny and curiosity gazing directly upon them. No movie this year, including the Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fantastic Four, or Furious 7, has the level of anticipation that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is experiencing.

The Force Awakens is the first true sequel to the original trilogy. Despite the prequel series coming out in the late 90’s, many fans have been waiting over thirty years, to see what happened to the icons that made the series special in the first place. It will undoubtedly be a huge emotional payoff to revisit with characters such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Chewbacca, and find out what fate ultimately had in store for them.

In the two trailers released, aside from the shot of Han and Chewie, there has not been much revealed about the look or role of the original cast in the newest installment. The marketing effort has been to primarily bolster the next generation of characters, who are about to grab the baton from the vets this December. However, we all still want to know how time has treated our beloved characters. While the look of Luke Skywalker is still under wraps, has uncovered one of the costumes of Leia (since she has surely graduated from being a princess), in the upcoming movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The look matches previous descriptions reported by Making Star Wars, with Carrie Fisher as Leia, dressed in an outfit that brings to mind a Tantive IV trooper, without the silly Spaceballs helmet. It’s unclear if Han and Leia have been together all of these years, but it kinda looks like when a couple is together too long and they start to dress alike. In any case, it is a logical progression for the character, who is certainly in a leadership position in her later years. It also has been suggested that the war did not end after Return of the Jedi, so her more militaristic look makes sense as well.

It looks like J.J. Abrams has made another solid decision in his quest to create a new foundation for the Star Wars universe. Almost every move made so far seems to respect the iconography of the past, yet continues to push the franchise forward in a logical progression. Hopefully we will get our first look at Luke Skywalker in the coming weeks and then we might be satiated until the release date. Maybe…

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens December 18th, 2015.
