Get Blown Away By the ‘Into the Storm’ Trailer

It seems that a few times a decade, we as a society, need films that remind us that things always can get worse. The natural disaster film is always thrilling for two primary reasons. The first is that it isn’t us in that extraordinary circumstance, so we can enjoy the drama unfolding. The second reason we are able to enjoy it, is because we know that it could be us in that unusual circumstance. These films seem to channel our anxieties about nature coming back to strike in a way more visceral and real than a metaphor like Godzilla attacking your city. Films like Armageddon, Twister, and The Day After Tomorrow all tap into the vulnerabilities of humans versus nature. The latest film to add to this tradition is Into the Storm. A found-footage disaster movie in which tornadoes wreck unbelievable havok on a community. Watch the trailer and make sure your seat is nailed to the floor:

It looks like a disaster… A natural disaster of course. We will see if this film is any good or if it slips through the cracks. It is being released the same month as Guardians of the Galaxy and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, so it is yet to be seen if anyone will even notice it’s being released. The plot appears to be thin, but there seems to be enough disaster porn and special effects to make this a Universal Studios type of thrill-ride. Into the Storm stars Richard Armitage (The Hobbit trilogy), Jeremy Sumpter (Friday Night Lights) and  Sarah Wayne Callies (The Walking Dead) and will be released on August 8th, 2015.

Here is the Official Synopsis:

In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of the most furious twisters they’ve ever seen. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most seek shelter; others run towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot. Told through the eyes and lenses of professional storm chasers, thrill-seeking amateurs and courageous townspeople, the movie throws you directly into the eye of the storm to experience Mother Nature at her most extreme.
