Marvel Studios has had a remarkable run of success over the past nine years and its looking like 2017 will not be an exception. The studio has partnered with Sony Pictures to reboot the Spider-Man franchise, with the hero’s first MCU solo film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, to debut in July. They will also capping off the trilogy of Thor movies with Thor: Ragnarok, which will pair the Asgardian warrior with the Incredible Hulk in an intergalactic road trip. However, the biggest movie of the year for Marvel might star the galaxy’s biggest group of A-holes, the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Director James Gunn is back behind the camera to bring back Marvel’s most unlikely group of superheroes back to theaters this May, in a brand new adventure. The sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, will feature the return of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax (Dave Bautista), as well as Rocket and Groot which features the voice talents of Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel.
Just in time for the Superbowl, Marvel has released a new promo trailer which gives glimpses of the new characters and scenarios the crew will be up against in the upcoming sequel. However, what should be of most interest to fans of Marvel Comics – and old-fashioned villainy – is the reveal of the movie’s antagonist, Ayesha, played by Elizabeth Debicki.
In the comics, Ayesha is a genetic experiment birthed from a cocoon that looks sneakily similar to the one glimpsed in the Collector’s museum in Guardians of the Galaxy. The character – who also goes by the names Kismet, Paragon, and Her – will be a big challenge for the Guardians and should serve as a precursor to Adam Warlock. It’s officially time to get hyped, as the movie is just three short months away.
Official Synopsis:
Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opens on May 5, 2017.
