The sixth and final installment of Peter Jackson’s Middle-Earth saga is coming this December. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies will tell the last part of Bilbo Baggins epic quest with Gandalf the Wizard and a band of dwarves. This film is said to match, or perhaps best, the scale of war seen in The Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit trilogy has not had the same level of fanboy excitment as with the previous trilogy. However, this chapter is said to not only end the story of The Hobbit, but it will also bridge both franchises in unexpected ways. If Jackson can pull that off, we may have one last reason to get excited. Here is the official teaser trailer:
It is kind of hard to tell… but was he actually asking the audience if “we will follow him” or Bilbo?
It is a teaser and really didn’t reveal much, however it is obvious that we will get the battle to close out the franchise in style. There are many familiar faces and the stylistic cinematography gives assurances that this may be the best Hobbit film in the series. We will see December 17th, 2014 when The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies hits theaters.
Here is the official synopsis:
“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen), the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.
