It’s ‘Batman vs Robin’ Versus the Court of Owls in the New Trailer

Here it is. The trailer we have all been waiting for! Batman vs Robin…wait…wtf? Alright, it will have to do for now. This is yet another chapter in DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation’s growing animated universe which began with last year’s Justice League: War.

Batman vs Robin is inspired by the “Court of Owls” storyline written by Scott Snyder, however it’s not a direct adaptation. It is directed by Jay Oliva who has an extensive recent history with both Batman and Warner Bros. He directed Batman: Assault on Arkham and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. He also gets major points for storyboarding the upcoming live action Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This also gives further insight into the synergy between the animation and feature film departments in WB, which has been modernized using the New 52 template from the comic book storylines.

The movie is a continuation of last year’s Son of Batman, as Batman’s rebellious offspring Damian Wayne, gets the attention of the Court of Owls and all hell breaks loose. The upcoming movie looks to have the same art direction and dynamic action as the previous installment, so fans can rest assured. However one of the biggest reasons to be excited is the voice cast, highlighted by Kevin Conroy who is not playing Batman. (That is not a typo.) The biggest surprise is “Weird” Al Yankovic will be playing the creepy Dollmaker, which is completely logical casting on a longer thought. This is yet something else to look forward to from DC Animation.

Here is the lineup:

Jason O’Mara, Sean Maher, and David McCallum will all return in the respective roles of Batman, Robin, and Alfred. With Jeremy Sisto (“Suburgatory”) joining as the voice of Talon, the Court’s almost unbeatable assassin; Grey Griffin as a character named Samantha; and “Weird” Al Yankovic as The Dollmaker, a Batman villain who previously has appeared on “Arrow” and been teased on “Gotham”; Robin Atkin Downes as Grandmaster; Peter Onorati as Draco; and fan-favorite Batman voice Kevin Conroy will guest star as Thomas Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s father.

Batman vs Robin will be released this spring and will have its world premiere at WonderCon on April 3-5.
