To kick-start their new show, Star Wars Rebels, Disney created a special episode to introduce the public to the new series, before it officially kicks off next week. The 44 minute short film, Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion, ended up being quite successful when it aired on the Disney channel last week. So the people in expensive suits decided that they are bringing the show to ABC, to let the general viewing audience get a look as well. The episode will re-air on October 26th with a very special additional scene.
Disney will be including an additional scene for this broadcast, featuring Darth Vader himself. Legendary stage and film actor James Earl Jones, will be making an unexpected move and returning to voice the character he made iconic, with simply the will of his voice.
Star Wars Rebels takes place in between Star Wars episodes 3 and 4, when Vader’s domination of the galaxy was growing. The series is introducing a new threat, the Inquisitor. So not only is this prepping audiences for the show, but familiarizing viewers with characters that may be around on the big and small screen for years to come. The producers had this to say about Jones and the Inquisitor.
“We wanted to do something special for the ABC broadcast. We’ve added a scene which gives audiences insight into the Inquisitor and includes a cameo by Darth Vader voiced by the distinguished actor James Earl Jones.”
This additional scene should not only attract new and repeat viewers, but could potentially help to establish some of the ongoing mythology in the Star Wars universe. And shucks, I would even tune in to hear James Earl Jones read the Divergent series. (zing!)
Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion will re-air with the additional footage on ABC on October 26th. The Star Wars Rebels series begins. Monday, October 13th on Disney XD.
