James Marsden Gives His Thoughts on the New Cyclops Tye Sheridan

After an exhausting search, director Bryan Singer and Fox Studios have settled on the new young actors joining X-Men: Apocalypse, who will go on to define the franchise for the foreseeable future. Cyclops will be played by Tye Sheridan who came on to the scene in Terrence Malick’s, The Tree of Life, and more recently is known for holding his own against Matthew McConaughey in Mud.

Sheridan will be taking over the role of Scott Summers, who also goes by the codename, Cyclops. He will be playing a younger version of the character that was originated by actor James Marsden in 2000’s X-Men. For fans of the source material, one of the most glaring issues with the film franchise is Cyclops. Summers is the field general and the second in command of the X-Men, however in the movies he was marginalized before getting unceremoniously disintegrated.

The hiring of Sheridan represents a passing of the baton and the start of a new era for the X-Men on film. Marsden was recently stopped at a red carpet event and was asked his thoughts on the new actor portraying the famed mutant and he responded.

“I think he’s a wonderfully talented actor who blew me away in Mud. I’ve never seen a kid that young be that present and that powerful. So, I think he’s a perfect fit and I congratulate him.”

Just about everyone who has seen Mud is confident that Sheridan will be able to make the role his own. This is one of the new young faces to take the franchise into the next generation of X-Men films. Hopefully Singer will be able to duplicate his past casting successes, like discovering Hugh Jackman for Wolverine.

Sheridan will be joined by Game of Thrones’ star Sophie Turner as Jean Grey and Alexandra Shipp as Ororo Munroe, aka Storm. These three will represent the future of the franchise and will be joining X-Men veterans James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and presumably Hugh Jackman for X-Men Apocalypse, which shoots in a little over two months.
