There was positive movement for the big screen adaptations of Aquaman and Robotech, which were officially confirmed to be moving full speed ahead today. Director James Wan (Furious 7, The Conjuring) has been confirmed to helm both tentpole pictures over the next few years.
After the sensational success of Furious 7, Wan has become one of the most in demand directors in Hollywood. He already is prepping to shoot the sequel to The Conjuring in the fall and Aquaman has a confirmed release date set in 2018. Clearly Wan will have his hands full balancing the various franchises.
Wan is now also attached to the Robotech project as well. The adaptation of the classic 1980’s anime series about a galactic war between humans and an invading alien force looks like it may be the last in Wan’s queue. It seems that Wan is so sought after that studios are holding franchises to wait for his availability. Unlike Aquaman, Robotech is not yet part of larger interconnected universe and a lot of weight falls on the superhero property which already has its star Jason Momoa, waiting in the batter box for his moment.
Aquaman will be the fifth film in the newly formed DC cinematic universe, that began with Man of Steel and will continue with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman films. It could be argued that Aquaman might be the hardest adaptation to pull off out of the bunch. However, Warner Bros seems confident and has already released the first www.1edrxpills.com plot synopsis for the upcoming film.
An icon for over 70 years, Aquaman is the King of the Seven Seas. This reluctant ruler of Atlantis, caught between a surface world constantly ravaging the sea and Atlanteans looking to lash out in revolt, is committed to protecting the entire globe.
The synopsis for the film is vague and directly lifted from several interpretations found in the comics. The New 52 iteration of the DC Comics’ superheroes seem to be heavily inspiring the cinematic universe, so it will be interesting to see which plot elements have intrigued Wan. This synopsis also sheds a little light on how Aquaman’s Atlantean introduction to humans may not be a civil one.
The film is being produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder, the same group behind Dawn of Justice, so that should alleviate some concerns about the details of the DC universe that is being constructed and keeping continuity between pictures. With a director firmly on board, we should see things begin to develop quickly. Provided that they are close to settling on the script that Kurt Johnstad is writing, with Wan overseeing the process. There should be a lot more being uncovered soon, so make sure to keep coming back for the latest news on Aquaman and all things DCCU.
Aquaman will be released on July 27, 2018.
