In October of 2014, Christmas came early for action movie fans everywhere. Out of nowhere a film came that was a throwback to the simpler days of ass-kicking. A time when all a hero needed was a huge gun and the ability to not get shot. We got that and more in Keanu Reeves’ comeback hit, John Wick.

John Wick was so influential that it created a whole sub-genre, gun-fu, that has had its string of imitators ever since. So it’s only fitting that the the master of six-shooters comes back to the big screen in a big way. 

The first movie was made on a limited budget, that benefited from a world-building mythology, which consistently hinted at a universe larger than the one seen on-screen. In the second film, it’s clear that the budget and world has expanded significantly, as the movie has a globetrotting feel with international locations and a much higher production value. 

There is a lot to look forward to in the upcoming sequel. However, the biggest surprise has to be the reunion of Reeves and Laurence Fishburne, the stars behind one of the best action movies of all-time, The Matrix. While the first John Wick came out of nowhere, John Wick: Chapter 2 will certainly be near the top of everyone’s 2017 must-see lists and here is why…

Official Synopsis:

In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick [Keanu Reeves] is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

John Wick 2 opens October 8th, 2017.
