Years before the secret battle between vampires and lycans was made into a sappy Romeo and Juliet story in Twilight, the world was first introduced to Underworld in 2003. It featured a female warrior caught in the crossfires of an epic war and she didn’t have love to get her through…she had two pistols and some badass action moves.

In a small bit of unexpected news, the Underworld franchise got a shot of adrenaline with the return of actress Kate Beckinsale to the series that she helped to get off the ground. While the Underworld franchise has never had a huge mainstream awareness, it does have a strong base of fans who are enchanted by the hidden war between vampires and werewolves. Also joining the cast is Theo James, who made his first appearance in Underworld Awakening.

According to THR, Anna Foerster will be directing the untitled fifth film. She will also serve as the first female director for the Underworld franchise, which has traditionally featured female action leads. Cory Goodman is handling the script duties, however not much is known about the details of the story. What is known is that filming will begin in October in Prague. The series has steadily declined in quality, so the expectations will be low for the sequel, which will probably work in the movie’s benefit.
