After a long summer of character reveals, posters and teasers, the day is finally here. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt. 1 trailer has arrived. Due to Lionsgate’s expert marketing program and viral campaigns, there has been such a buildup to the preview, it feels as if the trailer is the actual movie. Fortunately for fans of the franchise, the campaign wasn’t simply empty propaganda, the series is maturing and it looks to raise the bar in it’s epic scope yet again.
Katniss Everdeen is back, played again by Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence, and she looks ready for all out war this time around. Suzanne Collins’ final chapter of her Hunger Games trilogy has been divided into two parts for the big screen. This is the beginning of the end. After destroying the Hunger Games in the last installment, Katniss is firmly in District 13. She is a living legend and must use her acquired skills and leadership to inspire a nation and liberate her comrade Peeta. The action and tone seems much more dire, as the tension in the series continues to build. Along with the heightened stakes and scale, many familiar faces return including Julianne Moore, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and Jeffrey Wright among others.
Enjoy the trailer:
Taking the action outside of the Hunger Games arena really opens the franchise up to a lot of fun possibilities. Plus it will be fun to see what Lawrence does with the role this time around, since Katniss will be free to truly make her own decisions and show her true colors, because there won’t be television cameras on her at all times. The world created feels more real and tactile and it should be a thrill to see what kind of cliffhanger they leave audiences with, at the end of this installment.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Pt1. will be released on November 21st.
