Time travel has come back to the forefront of science fiction in movies and TV. There is a growing list of films which have tinkered with the space-time continuum in the past few years, such as Star Trek, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Looper. There is also another movie coming out later this month that will attempt to put its own spin on the phenomenon, Project Almanac.
This movie seems to fit into a similar niche as Josh Trank’s Chronicle, which surprised audiences when it premiered in early February of 2012. It looks like Project Almanac will be a trippy wish-fulfillment fantasy about what teenage kids would really do if they could alter history. Hopefully they will find creative ways to reinvent the often repeated formula. Instead of figuring out how to repair their parent’s banged-up sports car before they get home from vacation, these group of teens will have to figure out how to clean up the world they wrecked. Alas, modern problems…
The cookie cutter leads and far-fetched plot make the trailer feel like a modernized 1980’s movie, with a twist of The Twilight Zone, which could be fun…or not. We won’t have to wait long to find out, as it comes out at the end of the month. Enjoy the trailer.
Official Synopsis:
A brilliant high school student and his friends uncover blueprints for a mysterious device with limitless potential, inadvertently putting lives in danger.
Project Almanac jumps into theaters January 30th, 2015.
