Lex Luthor Joins Will Smith, Tom Hardy and Ryan Gosling in Negotiations for ‘The Suicide Squad’

When Warners Bros announced their DC film schedule to the world last week, the movie directly following Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, was merely an afterthought. That is understandable when comic icons such as the Flash and Wonder Woman are finally getting their big-screen treatment. However, The Suicide Squad seems further along then many have anticipated.

Director David Ayer has already agreed to direct and Justin Marks has written the script. A bombshell of a rumor was dropped recently. WB has Will Smith, Tom Hardy, Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, in various levels of negotiation to join the film. This is what Ayer had to say about his approach to the film:

“Fury’ whetted my appetite for a bigger canvas and this idea of world creation. You can do amazing things as a filmmaker if you have the proper tools, and those are time and money…I can say that it’s a Dirty Dozen with supervillains. Then I can ask the question, ‘Does a movie really need good guys?”

Fury (check out our review) is an apt example of a collection of people you wouldn’t want to meet in real life, but would love to spend two hours watching in a movie. That confidence and strength of vision is a great sign for the production.

Today even more compelling news surfaced as well. Deadline’s Mike Fleming Jr. reported today that Jesse Eisenberg is in talks to join the picture. This is what Fleming reported:

I hear that Warner Bros is in discussions with Jesse Eisenberg to take the Lex Luthor character he will unveil in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, and transfer the villain character to Suicide Squad.

While the report is unexpected, it does make a lot of sense. The Suicide Squad has been touted as a “Dirty Dozen” type of film, but there has to be a macguffin which is bringing them all together. ScreenRant has suggested that perhaps Luthor could be giving commands from the top, in an effort to steal kryptonite or possibly himself out of jail. (Depending on how the events of Dawn of Justice shake out.) Both are interesting and logical theories. What is a fact, is that Lex Luthor is a boss. If he is in the movie, he will be the puppet-master in some capacity.

Very exciting time for fans of DC Comics. So if Eisenberg does sign on to join, how do you think he will be involved? Let us know on the comment boards,  and !
