Live-Action Teen Titans Show is in Development Called ‘Titans’

Warner Bros. TV has been extremely slow in getting their comic book adaptations into development. However, they intend to spread their characters over television airwaves in ways that Marvel hasn’t even tried. After the success of Arrow, they developed The Flash and Constantine, which are premiering within weeks. A few days ago news broke that a Supergirl TV show is in development as well. Suddenly, there is a wealth of superhero riches. The latest bit of good news for fans of DC Comics is that the Teen Titans are being developed for the small screen.

The pilot is being scripted by Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, Batman & Robin) and Marc Haines (The Last Word), the show is awaiting the green light from TNT Studios to proceed. Deadline reports that TNT is undergoing a regime change that is complicating matters. However if things align correctly, expect to see Dick Grayson leading his superhero team in a show titled, Titans very soon. Here is how the series is described:

Titans revolves around the eponymous group of young Super Heroes-to-be from the DC Universe. The action series centers on Dick Grayson (probably best known for his alter ego as Robin), who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a fearless band of new Super Heroes including Starfire, Raven and many others.

It is a deft move to remove the “teen” from the title. It opens up the casting pool to a lot more actors and instantaneously gives the show a more mature and dramatic feel. Following Grayson as the lead will be a big selling point as well. As an adopted son of Batman, he has the angst sought after in TV show leads, along with a complicated backstory that even casual fans should be intrigued by.

It is also worth noting the absence of Cyborg in the announcement. Seemingly his involvement in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice means he has graduated and won’t be slumming it with the Titans. It falls in line with Warner Bros strategy to keep their movie and TV universes separate thus far.

If TNT approves the show to move to the pilot stage, expect to hear details flood in quickly in regards to the specific story lines and casting. What actors and actresses do you think would work? Let us know on the comment boards,  and !
