Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ Gets an Official Release Date and Motion Poster

The publicity machine is revving up for Marvel’s Daredevil. The anticipation level is high for Marvel and Netflix’s first joint venture, which will set the tone for several new upcoming television series as well.

The first show out of the gate is Daredevil, which will set a more mature and gritty tone than has been seen in the past from Marvel Studios. Showrunner Steven Deknight explained his approach to the show.

“…people shouldn’t come to this expecting me to deliver the Spartacus of Marvel…we’re able to explore morally gray areas, where you’re rooting for the bad guy and questioning the good guy, which is more difficult on network TV.”

DeKnight is referencing his hit series Spartacus, which had graphic violence and nudity, largely due to its setting in Ancient Rome. What is interesting is that we may be getting our most realistic anti-hero yet. It seems that they will make an attempt to dive into the psychology of a man who is so obsessed over justice, that he is a lawyer by day and vigilante by night.

Charlie Cox (Boardwalk Empire) will play Daredevil. While acclaimed actor Vincent D’onofrio will play Wilson Fisk, portrays the iconic crime boss better known as the Kingpin. Fisk is rumored to have fully realized motivations and a understandable viewpoint. This is the duality that DeKnight is alluding to and could result in a totally new experience for fans of live-action Marvel comics. Especially since many Marvel villains have developed a reputation of being one-dimensional.

The best part is that the 13-episode season is only three months away. Daredevil will be released on April 10th, 2015. Only three short weeks before the debut of The Avengers: Age of Ultron in movie theaters. While it doesn’t appear that there will be much direct crossover between the two properties, it is a good move on Marvel’s part to release them so closely in a continued effort to create synergistic marketing. Agents of SHIELD will be closing out their second season around that point and Ant-Man will be released a few months after that, in July. It seems that we are about to enter the true Age of Marvel. Are you ready?
