Well we are a week away from the unofficial start of the Summer Movie Bonanza beginning on April 4th with the release of Captain America: The Winter Solider. In anticipation we have some great new stills from a few of the upcoming movies-to-see.
The Amazing Spider-man 2:
Sony (courtesy of EW and Empire) has continued their media onslaught and released publicity stills for their upcoming May 2nd release of The Amazing Spider-man 2:
Cleary the production staff wants fans to take note of the changes that were made to the (Green? Hob?) Goblin’s appearance and gear. The level of detail far surpasses the Power Ranger styled suit of the Raimi films, not to mention the suit is grafted into Harry Osbourne’s skin. So it seems that he underwent some sort of chemical transformation (leaving him with a lovely complexion) and some sort of cybernetic procedure.
While not going with the halloween-style Green Goblin mask of the comics, it is clear that the design should at least bring the original to mind. In fact it seems director Marc Webb has cut the difference between the original mask and the new mutated version of the Goblin seen in Ultimate Spider-man comics. Clearly Webb was influenced by the modern comics in his character design.
According to EW and comic book lore, Emma Stone’s (The Help) character is going to be in serious trouble during the course of this film. Sony isn’t being shy about teasing the potential death of Stacy. However, Spider-man always saves the day….doesn’t he?
Enjoy this as well! A behind the scenes look with brand new footage!
Guardians of the Galaxy:
Marvel will be bookending their summer in August with the release of James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The trailer showed off the tone and incredible special effects that we can expect. Here we get a look at one of the villians of the piece, Nebula.
Just in case you forgot…yes this movie does feature a talking racoon and tree voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel respectively. Hold on to your hats… this will be a wild one…
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Twentieth Century Fox is prepping for their summer release Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which will continue Caesar’s story which began in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The sequel is being directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) for a July 17th release.
In his interview with Empire, Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) explains what state the apes are in since the last film:
This is now a community of about 2,000 apes…For the first eight years [after the humanity-devastating virus], the apes were looking down from Muir Woods to San Francisco and could see lights and fires, but now it’s gone very quiet. Until this day in our film when this small band of humans comes up. That’s suddenly a huge, dividing moment in the lives of these apes. There are some particularly strong reactions to the humans and that’s the course of the story.
It not only seems that tensions are rising, but the apes have grown even more intelligent. They have evolved to the point where they can use automatic weaponry… the humans of San Francisco look to be in deep trouble…
X-Men: Days of Future Past
The X-men are coming back on May 23rd with the follow up to 2011’s X-Men: First Class. Here are some stills from the newly released trailer (via Fox and ScreenRant):
Here we get a glimpse of not only the Professor X (how is he standing?) and Magneto, but Magneto’s son Quicksilver. It should be noted that the exact same character is being played in The Avengers: Age of Ultron by Aaron Taylor Johnson (Kick-Ass).
You are as cold as ice, Bobby!
Magneto has the ability to control small metal things…
And large metal things… He is the master of magnetism and clearly these metallic robots are down with his cause (for the moment).
Is it just us? Or does Wolverine totally have a “been there, done that” look on his face?
Hopefully your day is a going a little bit better than Storm’s!
Which upcoming films are you excited for?
