It seems that the break up is over and actor Daniel Craig is returning to the role of James Bond that made him a star. The English actor became an international sensation after he revamped the role of Bond in Martin Campbell’s Casino Royale, before going on to make one of the best Bond movies of all-time with Skyfall.
However, following the production of Spectre, Craig shocked the world by informally revealing to a reporter that he was tired of playing the character and had a growing disgust for the process of making Bond movies. This is what the actor had to say last year:
“Now? I’d rather … slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”
Clearly the actor was fed up with the role and many wondered why the actor would literally be toying around with career suicide. Particularly since Craig has never established himself as a box-office draw, aside from playing Bond. Well, it seems that there is a happy ending in Tinsletown. As the actor has changed course and made it official that he’s returning for the next installment with the simple phrase, “I always wanted to, I wanted a break,” during a recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Making a statement on late night television is far from an official confirmation, however MGM took things one step further when they made the announcement official via press release:
“Daniel Craig will return as 007 in Bond 25. The actor confirmed he would play James Bond for the fifth time to host Stephen Colbert on The Late Show. Bond 25 will be released in US cinemas on November 8, 2019 with a traditional early release in the UK and the rest of the world.”
There is not an official title for the 25th installment of the Bond franchise or a director that has been formally announced. However, the franchise has found an abundance of success in that November release window, so it looks as if the movie is being given the chance for another billion dollar success.
While Craig’s previous comments were very public, it’s hard to imagine that the general public is aware, or would hold his previous disdain against him or the franchise. However, many felt as if he mailed in his last performance and appeared bored during Spectre. Surely, he received a pot full of gold for his return, which should serve as motivation. But only time will tell if the project is solely a money grab, or if there is a groundbreaking take that drew Craig back for another run in the black tuxedo.
The untitled 25th James Bond movie will open in theaters on November 8th, 2019.
